EVA Foam vs PU Foam: Which to Choose?

Atami EVA · 5 min read · January 2026

Key Differences Between EVA and PU Foam

EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) and PU (Polyurethane) foam are the two most widely used foam types in industrial applications. The right choice depends on your application requirements.

Water Resistance

EVA foam is completely waterproof thanks to its closed-cell structure. PU foam absorbs water due to its open-cell structure — not suitable for wet environments.

Durability and Lifespan

EVA foam shows superior resistance to UV light, moisture and chemicals. PU foam can yellow and become brittle over time. EVA is preferred for long-life applications.

Cost

PU foam generally has a lower raw material cost, but its shorter lifespan makes EVA more economical in the long run.
